20 Knots: Daffodils for Boston is installed at Seaport Common (85 Northern Avenue Boston, MA 02210) every springtime
20 Knots dovetails with the ongoing work of Marathon Daffodils. Now in its seventh year, Marathon Daffodils, founded by Diane Valle in response to the tragic marathon bombing, mobilizes a network of nonprofits and horticulturists to place 130,000 daffodils along the 26.2 mile marathon route. The Boston Seaport, who commissioned this work, has partnered with Marathon Daffodils whose project is to strengthen the community by bringing beauty to where there was unfathomable loss, mayhem and sadness.
20 Knots consists of twenty 20-foot-tall wind-inflated flowers that inflate and change direction with the wind. 20 knots (about 23 miles per hours) is the ideal wind speed for this work's activation.
