Incubator at Mmuseumm

I had the pleasure of collaborating with Alex Kalman in creating a custom chicken egg incubator for the current season of Mmuseumm. Mmuseumm is a modern natural history museum devoted to the curation and exhibition of contemporary artifacts that illustrate the complexities of the modern world. Our incubator is not only designed to successfully hatch chicken eggs, but to do so with style and for the public to witness. Our aesthetic considerations kept in line with the overall look of the Mmusemm — the eggs sit on a red velvet plinth and are rotated for 4 seconds every 12 minutes by a concealed roller. Humidity is delivered by inset refillable petri dishes and the overall temperature is kept at exactly 99.5 degrees by three thermostat-controlled fans. All of this takes place behind a plexiglass vitrine in which, after 21 days, our eggs hatch 12 White Leghorn chicks.
